A. Fern Porter, 86 of North Webster, formerly of Huntington, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at her residence. Fern had worked for Square D in Huntington for many years. She loved camping and had camped at various locations with her husband over the years. They spent their summers at their cottage on the Barbee Lake chain and eventually moved there permanently in the late 90’s. She loved spending time with her family, especially caring for the grandkids.
Fern was born on September 18, 1928 in Huntington, a daughter of Walter and Ruth (Razer) Hunt.
She was united in marriage to Harry Porter Jr. on February 6, 1948 in Huntington. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1999.
Survivors include a daughter: Debra (Lon) Knecht of Huntington; two grandsons: Brandon (Heather) Knecht of Roanoke and Scott Spencer of Goshen; a granddaughter: Alicia Knecht of Winter Park, FL.; two great grandchildren: Harper Knecht and Zachary Spencer; a brother: Al (Edna) Hunt of Huntington; a brother in law: Chuck Porter of North Webster and a sister-in-law: Margaret Shilling of Bippus.
She was preceded in death by a sister Mae Wilkening.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service.
Interment will take place at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Marion.
