Arthur Joseph Vickery, 94, of Warsaw, IN passed away at 2:25 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Mason Healthcare & Rehab in Warsaw, IN. He was born on October 17, 1919 in Springfield, OH to William Joseph & Laura Belle (Spencer) Vickery.
He attended public schools in OH & served in the United States Army during World War II. On August 3, 1946 in Anderson, IN he married Rosemary Gooding who preceded him on July 5, 2013. He was a lifetime truck driver for Consolidate Freightways and lived most of his life in Anderson, IN, Akron, OH, Barbee Lake, Port Charlotte, FL, & Muncie before moving to Warsaw in 2013.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster.
He is survived by:
2 Daughters – Nadine (William) Mowery of North Webster & Phyllis Mann of Niles, MI
3 Sons – Robert (Ellen) Vickery of Warsaw, Joseph (Nancy) Vickery of Fort Wayne, & Daniel (Mary) Vickery of Muncie
18 Grand, 33 Gt. grand, Several Gt. Gt. grandchildren
Sister – Phyllis Sue Hedge & Maxine Cripe both of Scottsburg, IN
He was preceded by his parents, wife, 2 sons – Arthur William “Butch” Vickery & James David Vickery, 2 brothers – George & Robert Vickery, & 4 sisters – Betty Knapp, Helen Higi, Marie Cann and an infant sister.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014 Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & CR 500N, North Webster. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home with Russ Chandler, chaplain of the North Webster American Legion officiating. Military services will follow at the funeral home by the North Webster American Legion. Private family burial will take place at the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery.
