Bernard A. Sikora, 81, passed away March 5, 2015 at 4:16 AM in the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Bernie, as he was known, was born in Byesville, Ohio on July 26, 1933 to John G. and Josephine A. (Jurcak) Sikora.
He was a 1951 graduate of St. Benedict School in Cambridge, Ohio. Bernie attended Ohio State University and later graduated with his Associate Degree in Business Management from Purdue University.
He served during the Korean War with the United States Air Force.
On March 8, 1969 Bernie and Lois E. Dill were married in Fort Wayne. They moved to Beaver Dam, Indiana in 1973.
He was a foreman for ITT.
Bernie was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Elks Lodge – all in Ohio. He loved his dogs and enjoyed shooting his rifles and sitting outside while taking in nature’s beauty. He enjoyed watching college football especially Ohio State and Purdue. Bernie and Mike had a great time restoring a springtime yellow 1966 Mustang. All shared in family time camping in the backyard, going to air shows and a special trip to Disney World in 2010. He gave a gold dollar coin for each year being celebrated of the grandchildren’s birthdays; he also gave them a gold dollar coin for every “A” they earned on their report cards.
In addition to his wife, Lois, Bernie is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law: John and Beth Sikora of Pierceton, Indiana; and Michael “Mike” and Michele Sikora of Warsaw, Indiana; 4 grandchildren: Hannah, Sean, Alicia and Logan; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law: Joanne and Richard Sebek of Chino Hills, California; and Therese and David Compton of Westfield, Indiana; as well as 1 brother: Francis “Frank” Sikora of Birmingham, Alabama. Bernie was preceded in death by a brother: John A. Sikora on July 16, 1941.
Visitation will take place Saturday, March 28th from 10 - 11 AM in Titus Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating Bernie's life will follow beginning at 11 AM in the funeral home. Pastor David Hummel of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, will officiate. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, where military honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
The family has asked that gifts in Bernie’s memory be given to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, PO Box 1906, Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1906.
