Bernard M. “Rebel” Atkins, 64, of Cromwell, IN passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Goshen General Hospital in Goshen. He was born on May 11, 1946 in Boone Co., WV to Lonnie & Eudania Atkins.
He attended public schools in West Virginia and was a United States Navy Veteran before moving to the Syracuse area in 1966 from West Virginia. He was married on May 11, 1968 in Syracuse, IN to Martha E. “Marty” Hall who survives. He was employed with Borden Waste Away in Elkhart for 25 years and formerly employed with Syracuse Rubber and Weatherhead Corporation in Syracuse. He formerly attended the Zion Chapel in Syracuse.

Wife – Marty Atkins of Cromwell
2 Sons – Jodi Atkins of Dayton, OH and Mike (wife, Bethany) Atkins of South Bend
1 Granddaughter – Ashley Atkins
2 Sisters – Alpha Halstead of Seth, WV & Emma Adkins of Comfort, WV
1 Half Sister – Mrs. Romeo (Dolly) Cooper of Eskdale, WV
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter – Tonya Atkins, 2 brothers – Ike & Mike Atkins.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Kohl of the Church of the Nazarene in Elkhart officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
