Joyce (Barber) Bowen, age 83, passed away quietly on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 8:53 p.m. in her daughter’s Columbia City residence. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time.
Joyce was born in Warsaw on August 10, 1935 and lived most of her life here. The daughter of Warren and Winifred (Koser) Howe, Joyce was a 1954 graduate of Warsaw High School. She worked for Warsaw Coil for many years, was a member of Warsaw’s First Christian Church and was active in the Order of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed crocheting, working crossword puzzles and, in quiet times, enjoyed reading Christian novels but nothing made her happier than to laugh with family. Time spent with them was precious to her.
Blessed to find love twice, Joyce was married first to Albert “Red” Barber and later to Carlton Bowen. Both preceded her in passing. Also preceding her were parents, Warren and Winifred Howe; daughter, Gail Barber-Kerr; grandson, Brent Howard; great-grandson, Austin Grindle and sister, Mary A. Miller.
Those who survive include son, Bill (Jenny) Barber of Warsaw; daughters, Linda (Brian) Fuller of Warsaw, Cindy Ross of Columbia City and Pam (Donny) Harris of Florida and son-in-law, Rick Kerr (husband of Gail) of Pierceton. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Heather Sand of Warsaw, Dara Howard (wife of Brent) of Warsaw, Alex Fuller of Warsaw, Tiffany (Jeff) Krotke of Silver Lake, Sherri (Dan) Fields of North Manchester, William Ross of Goshen, Misty (Andy) Snyder of Warsaw, Justin (Crystal) Kinsey of Pierceton and Todd (Chrissy) Barber of Lafayette; and 14 great-grandchildren: Adrian Grindle, Alyson Grindle, Addison Sand, Deacon Howard, Jordan Krotke, Emma Fields, Jayden Ross, William Ross, Laciey Snyder, Lucas Snyder, Jozlyn Kinsey, Charly Kinsey, Milo Barber and Lola Barber.
A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery's Chapel, 421 North Maple Ave., Warsaw, on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 11 a.m. Pastor Gary Boschain of Warsaw’s First Christian Church will officiate the service. Titus Funeral Home is assisting the family.
