Bessie Jean Plikerd Grimes

Bessie Jean Plikerd Grimes, 91, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 12:53 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Goshen Hospital. She was born on September 13, 1928 in Crawfordsville, IN to Charles Louden & Gertrude Leona (Bond) Sosbe.

She graduated in 1946 from Crawfordsville High School and moved to the Syracuse area in 1966 from Crawfordsville. She was married on July 22, 1947 in Denver, CO to Richard E. “Dick” Plikerd who preceded her on December 28, 1972. She then married on December 13, 1974 in Syracuse, IN to Stanley R. “Burley” Grimes who preceded her on May 12, 1993. She was a homemaker and formerly employed at Cecil Cannery in Milford, and Thornburg Drugs & Ace Hardware both in Syracuse.

She was a member of Syracuse Church of God and former member of the Twilight Bunco Club in Syracuse.

She is survived by:

4 Sons – Richard “Butch” (Jackie) Plikerd, Kenneth (Penny) Plikerd, Philip (Pat) Plikerd, and Alan (Diane) Plikerd all of Syracuse

7 Grand, 4 Step Grand, 17 Gt. Grand, 7 Step Gt. Grand, 2 Gt. Gt. Grand, and, 1 Step Gt. Gt. Grandchild

She was preceded by her parents, husbands, step grandson – Bud Weiser, 3 sisters – Katherine Elkins, Maxine Barnett, and Betty Jane Peacock, and 3 brothers – Wayne, Vernon, and Robert Sosbe.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020 in the funeral home with Pastor Stan Owen officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
