Betty Joy Horne, age 84, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 4:52 pm in Fort Wayne’s Lutheran Hospital of Indiana.
She was born on October 7, 1932 in Port Huron, Michigan. She was the daughter of Nelson and Beatrice (Hillis) Rankin.
It was in Port Huron where she would marry Robert M. Horne. Together they began family and shared more than 60 years.
A teacher by trade, Betty had worked for Faith Christian School in Margate, Florida. For many years she was also a missionary worker with Baptist Mid-Missions – serving in Liberia, West Africa and Guyana, South America.
She enjoyed reading and loved to travel. Her travels included Spain, England, Brussels, and Germany, among others. She was also a dedicated caregiver and loving mother.
Those who survive Betty include her husband: Robert Horne of Winona Lake, Indiana; son and daughter-in-law: Mark and Wendy Horne of Lake Worth, Florida; two grandchildren: Megan Horn and Adam Horne, both of Lake Worth; two brothers: Gerald Rankin of Colorado Springs, Colorado and David (wife, Saundra) Rankin of La Vergne, Tennessee. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Those who preceded Betty in death include a son: Jonathan Robert Horne (May 26, 2014); two sisters: Joanne Rankin and Charlene Brawdy; and a sister-in-law: Theresia Rankin.
Friends may join the family to celebrate Betty’s life at First Baptist Church, 2819 Patterson Road, Warsaw. The service will begin at 10 am on Saturday, October 29, 2016. Memorial gifts in her honor may be given to First Baptist Church.
