Betty J. Smith

Betty J. Smith, 85, of Fort Wayne, (formerly of Leesburg, IN) passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Bethlehem Woods Nursing Home in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on April 6, 1932 in Mount Sterling, KY to Emmons & Ollie Belle (Ensor) McVey.

She attended Mapleton Public Schools in Mount Sterling, KY and on July 11, 1975 in Pierceton, IN she married Paul Smith who preceded her on August 25, 2012. She moved to the Leesburg area in 1982 from Marion, IN before moving to Ft. Wayne in 2013. She formerly worked at Allied Paper Factory in Marion, IN for 20+ years and Stacy’s Sports Inn in Leesburg for 27 years.

She was a member of the Church of God & American Legion Auxiliary Post 253 both in North Webster.

She is survived by:

Daughter – Paula (Kim) Martin of Wabash

3 Grandchildren – Amy (Tim) Kuhn of Leesburg, Kelley Miller of Syracuse, and Amanda (Justin) Younce of Wabash

6 Gt. Grandchildren

Sister – Nancy Davis of Mt. Sterling, KY

Brother – Joe (Judy) McVey of Mt. Sterling, KY

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter – Donna Kern, sister – Lela Nichols, and 2 brothers - Floyd & William McVey.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & C.R. 500N, North Webster. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Boyer officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Gardens of Memory, 11201 S Marion Rd 35, Marion, IN 46952.

Memorial bequest may be given to Bethlehem Woods Nursing Home Alzheimer’s Unit, 4430 Elsdale Dr., Fort Wayne, IN 46835. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
