Billy R. Osborne passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 9:28 in Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, Florida. He was 76 years old.
Born on October 8, 1940 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, he was the son of Dewy Osborne and Julia (Tussey) Osborne. Both have preceded him in passing.
Billy served in both the United States Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine. He spent much of his lifetime in Warsaw, Indiana however and split the last 17 years between Warsaw and Florida.
On March 10, 1961 Billy was married to Linda L. Rapp in Michigan. They would spend nearly 45 years together before her death in 2006.
He had worked for North American Van Lines, Bendix Wire and was the owner-operator of Linda’s Taxi in Warsaw before joining NIPSCO. It was there where he retired after nearly thirty years of service.
Bill was active in his community and was a member of the Shriners, Moose Lodge, VFW, American Legion and Lions Club. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a Mason. He loved to cook and enjoyed travel – highlights include Hawaii, Germany, Mexico and Alaska. He also enjoyed fishing and boating on his pontoon. Mostly he was a friendly person who enjoyed hosting large fish frys for friends and family.
Those left to cherish memories of Billy include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Linn R. and Jack E. Campbell, Jr. of Culver, Indiana and Julie K. and Christopher Robinson of Warsaw, Indiana; 8 grandchildren and their families: Danyelle Routson of Florida, Devin Huff of Michigan, Dezirae Wilson of Warsaw, Brittany Murrary of Fort Wayne, Jack Campbell III of Culver, Sydney Robinson of Warsaw, Beth Volz of Fort Wayne and Angela Campbell of Culver; brother and sister-in-law, James and Debbie Osborne of Michigan and sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Eddie Wright of Florida. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren.
Those who preceded Billy in passing include his wife, Linda (January 2006); infant son, Billy R. Osborne, Jr. (July 1969); Mother, Julia Belcher (August 2007; father, John Belcher, Jr. (July 1999) and brothers, John “Gordy” Belcher (October 2003) and David Belcher, who died when he was merely a toddler.
Friends may join family for visitation and to share memories of a life-well-lived in Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw, from 3 to 7 PM on Thursday, January 19, 2017.
A funeral service celebrating Bill’s life will take place on Friday, January 20th in the Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Mueller of Redeemer Lutheran, Warsaw, will officiate with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
