Byron Keith Oswald, 67, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 4:56 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at his home. He was born on April 15, 1953 in Fort Wayne, IN to John R. & Genevieve (Slater) Oswald.
He grew up in Fort Wayne, graduated from Northside High School, and lived in California for a short time before moving to Syracuse. He was married on October 20, 1979 Syracuse, IN to Tammy Avery who survives. He retired from Wawasee Community School Corporation as the head custodian for Wawasee High School after 27 years and formerly was the manager of 3 Flags Drive-Inn in Syracuse for nearly 20 years.
He formerly attended the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse. He had a strong work ethic and was a great provider. He worked a lot, setting a good example for his sons & family of how to be a good husband. He was easy to talk to, knew most everyone, rarely knew a stranger, and loved the children at school, especially the special education kids.

Daughter – Chelsea Oswald of North Webster
3 Sons – Brandon (Elyza) Oswald of Mentone, Byron J. (Kailey) Oswald of Syracuse, and Slater (Madeline) Oswald of Warsaw
6 Grandchildren – Sophia, Hudson, Merritt, Kayson, Truitt, and Genevieve
3 Sisters – Rebecca (David) Jewel of Oregon, Pamela (Douglas) Gadson of Goshen, and Marty (Aaron) Meyer of Syracuse
2 Brothers – Jerry (Toby) Oswald of Florida & Ken Oswald of Indianapolis
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother – John Oswald.
Private family visitation and services will take place at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN with Pastor David Henry officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Milford.
