Charles E. “Chuck” Vanderveer, 82, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 6:55 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018 at his home. He was born on July 3, 1936 in Grand Valley, CO to Charles & Ester (Hendricks) Vanderveer.
He was a lifetime New Paris / Syracuse area resident, graduated in 1954 from New Paris High School, and served in the United States Army. He was married on August 17, 1956 in Syracuse, IN to Shirley A. Bell who survives. He worked on a farm as a young adult, Burger Dairy in New Paris for 2 years, rural post carrier in Syracuse for 37 years, and Monsanto in Ligonier for 8 years.
He was a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren in New Paris and formerly attended the Syracuse Church of the Brethren. He was a volunteer at Camp Mack and an avid genealogist.
He was survived by:
Wife – Shirley Vanderveer of Syracuse
Daughter – Chris (Tony) Keck of Goshen
Son – Michael (Patricia) Vanderveer of Goshen
3 Grand & 2 Gt. Grandchildren
Sister – Georgia Hammel of Goshen
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home on Thursday with Pastor Dwayne Runkle officiating. Private family burial will take place in the Syracuse Cemetery.
