Charles L. "Larry" Gates

Charles L. “Larry” Gates, 91, of North Webster, IN passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Grace Village Healthcare in Warsaw, IN. He was born on December 28, 1927 in Battle Creek, MI to Carl Wendell & Velma (Sommers) Gates.

He grew up in Mishawaka, IN and graduated in 1947 from Mishawaka High School. He was married on February 23, 1983 in Tucson, AZ to Patty Rae (Cheek) Owen who survives. He was the former owner / operator of Tip Top Appliances in Tucson, AZ for 20+ years, worked at Singer Manufacturing in South Bend for 20+ years, and retired from Uniroyal in Mishawaka after several years. He moved to Tucson, AZ in 1965, returned to Mishawaka in 1992, moved to Lake Estates near Warsaw in 2002, and then to North Webster in 2016.

He was a member of the Sons of American Legion Post 253 in North Webster and was an avid sportsman & fisherman.

He is survived by:

Wife– Patty Gates of North Webster

2 Daughters – Cathie Jo (Daniel) Chamberlain & Traci Gates both of Tucson, AZ

Son – Terry Lee (Theresa) Gates of Mishawaka

5 Grand & 12 Gt. Grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson – Tony Berea, and brother – Don Gates.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd 15, Warsaw, IN. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & CR 500N, North Webster, IN. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
