Charles W. "Sonny" Gross

Charles W. “Sonny” Gross Jr., 76, of Warsaw, IN passed away at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at his family farm in Syracuse.  He was born January 7, 1940 in Warsaw, IN to Charles W.  & Wilma G. (Norman) Gross.

He was a lifetime Warsaw / Syracuse area resident and attended Warsaw High School. He was married on October 6, 1962 in Warsaw, IN to Avis J. Graff who preceded him on February 17, 2011. On January 20, 2012 in New Paris, IN he married June E. (May) Weaver who survives. He was the owner / operator of Gross & Sons Lumber Company for over 50 years, and formerly farmed.

He was a member of the Grace Bible Baptist Church in New Paris, Northern Indiana Johnny Poppers (formerly known as Two - Cylinder) Club, and former member of the Gideon’s International in Goshen.

He is survived by:

6 Daughters – Dana (Les) Ridgeway of Milford, Amy (Don) Ritter of Milford, Shirley (Joel) Wallenbeck of Syracuse, Leah Gross of Syracuse, Rebekah (Matt) Gilbert of Ligonier, & Joyce (Jeff) Gilbert of Wawaka

2 Sons – Paul Gross of Syracuse & Michael (Heather) Gross of New Paris

3 Step Daughters – Dianna (Mike) Sopher of Gilead, IN, Cris (Dan) Sweeny of Silver Lake, & Shelly Thomas of Warsaw

Step Son – David Gross of Talma

21 Grand, 1 Gt. Granddaughter, 6 Step Grand, & 4 Step, Gt. Grandchildren

3 Brothers – Pete (Ada) Gross of Warsaw, Fred Gross of Stevensville, MT, and Joe Gross of Syracuse

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, sister – Helen Harris and brother Gene Gross.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse IN. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2016 in the funeral home with Pastor Mike Gross of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
