Biography
Chester L. Clampitt, Jr., 76, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at 8:50 a.m. in his Warsaw, Indiana home.
Born October 24, 1939, Chet, as he was known, was born to Chester L. and Esther L. (Wills) Clampitt, Sr. in Frankfort, Indiana. He was a 1957 graduate of Mentone High School and was a lifetime Kosciusko County resident.
He and Judy Shireman were married December 31, 1990 in Warsaw. They would share 25 years together.
Chet was an employee of RR Donnelley and Son, Warsaw, for 45 years retiring as a supervisor in 2003.
He was a member of Warsaw Masonic Lodge No. 73 F. & A. M.; Fort Wayne Mizpha Shrine (past president); Fort Wayne Scottish Rite; Atwood Lions Club; and Warsaw Kiwanis Club (past president). Chet was a volunteer firefighter (in his younger years) with the Atwood Fire Department as well as a former Harrison Township trustee. He was a member of the Kosciusko Community Hospital board of directors and a former member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. Chet always had a positive outlook on life. He enjoyed working in the yard; following NASCAR and was especially a #24, Jeff Gordon, fan. He was also a Green Bay Packer fan and a Duke basketball fan. Chet enjoyed all water sports, snowmobiling and plowing snow. He had a passion for Jeeps and owned several of them through the years. He was an animal lover but he especially loved his 3 dogs: Sweetie, Ellie Mae and Maddie. He was a wonderful and loving husband. Chet was also a great and loving dad and grandfather who turned all experiences into a fun time.
Those who loved and will miss Chet most are his wife, Judy; 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Terry and Kevin Eaton of Claypool, Indiana; Carleen and Mark Quinlan of Granger, Indiana; and Allyson and Tony Fox of Bloomington, Indiana; 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Doug and Virginia Clampitt, Atwood, Indiana and Steve and Terri Clampitt, Warsaw; 3 step children and their spouses: Douglas (and April) Metzger and Mindy (and J.C.) Stookey – all of Warsaw; and Renee (and Bryan) Martin of Palm Harbor Florida; 22 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren; and lastly 2 sisters: Marcia (and Thomas) VanKirk of Frostproof, Florida; and Cheryl Couture of Columbus, Ohio.
Chet was preceded in death by his father: Chester L. Clampitt, Sr. on February 4, 1993, mother: Esther L. Clampitt on December 30, 1976, and a great grandson, Isaac Eaton in 2015.
You are welcome to join in supporting the family as memories are shared of Chet Wednesday, February 17th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at TITUS FUNERAL HOME, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580. Then Thursday morning beginning at 10:30 a.m. a service celebrating Chet's life will take place in the funeral home. Pastor Jeff Pfeifer of Warsaw Community Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Harrison Cemetery, Etna Green.
The family has asked that gifts in Chet’s memory be given to Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, PO Box 1196, Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1196 or to K-21 Health Foundation - Cancer Care Fund, PO Box 1810, Warsaw, Indiana 46581-1810. Envelopes are also available in the funeral home.
