Clifford E. “Cliff” Sears, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at 5:10 PM in Wellbrooke of Wabash (Indiana).
Cliff was born July 17, 1928 in Bedford, Indiana to Earl and Mary (Jerils) Sears. He attended school in Oolitic, Indiana. Cliff was raised and logged timber on their Springville (Bedford), Indiana family farm until he joined the Air Force.
He entered the US Air Force June 24, 1947 in Fort Knox, Kentucky. After serving in World War ll, Cpl. Clifford Earl Sears was honorably discharged through Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
In Solsberry, Indiana on December 14, 1951, he and Annice Pauline Black were joined in marriage. They would share 56 years together until her passing on January 13, 2008. Then on June 6, 2009 Cliff and Arizona “Zonie” Dotson were married in Silver Lake, Indiana. She survives.
Cliff was a self-employed owner of Anvil Pest Control for 20 years retiring in 1992. He also worked in civil engineering for 8 years at Grissom Air Force Base in pest control.
Living in Silver Lake since 1978, Cliff was a faithful member of Full Gospel Pentecostal Church, Silver Lake. He was involved with the planning and building of Sweetwater Assembly of God in North Manchester. Cliff enjoyed praising his Lord through singing and playing his harmonica. He taught Sunday School and was a deacon of the church. He also served on several boards and was a worship leader within the churches he attended. Cliff’s faith and his family were of greatest importance to him.
In addition to his wife, Zonie, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Joe and Melisa Sears of Akron, Indiana; daughter, Melody Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana; 2 grandsons: Nick Smith and his significant other, Erin Wood, of Akron; and Jordan Smith and his significant other, Ashley Zent, of Beaver Dam, Indiana; 2 granddaughters and a son-in-law: Kristy and Mark Sears-Curtis of Granger, Indiana; and Amanda Sears and her fiancé, Andy Bowers of Walkerton, Indiana; a step daughter and step son-in-law: Krystal Gail and Harold Napier of Wabash; step grandson: Robert Tofson of Crawfordsville, Florida; 2 step granddaughters: Faith Napier, Wabash; and Tasha Dean and significant other, Zeb Short, of Silver Lake; several great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Ed Prater of Silver Lake; and 2 sisters-in-law: Lona Hughes of Silver Lake; and Lizzy Whitaker of Marion, Indiana.
In addition to his first wife he is preceded in death by 3 brothers: Roy Lee “Red” Sears, Clayton Eugene Sears and Everett Francis Sears; and one sister: Amelia Jane Deal.
Family and friends will gather to share memories in support of each other Friday, April 17th from 4-7 PM in TITUS FUNERAL HOME, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580. A service celebrating Cliff’s life will take place Saturday morning beginning at 10:30 at Full Gospel Pentecostal Church, Silver Lake. Pastor Carl Hughes of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in South Pleasant Cemetery, North Manchester, where military honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
The family has asked that gifts in Cliff’s memory be directed to Alzheimer’s Association, 922 E. Colfax Avenue, South Bend, Indiana 46617.
