C. Jean Niles

C. Jean Niles, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, at Waterford Crossing Health Care in Goshen, Indiana. She was 96 years old. Jean was born on April 28, 1928, in Milford, IN to Ralph and Grace (Pinkerton) Neff. Jean lived a life filled with love, laughter, and service to the Lord.

Known to most as "Jean," she made a significant impact during her nearly 40 years working in the cafeteria Syracuse Elementary and later at Wawasee High School. Many students fondly remember her as one of the friendly Cafeteria Ladies, a title she held with pride.

Jean's commitment to her family was unwavering, and she delighted in spending time with them, whether on vacations to the beach, during holiday gatherings, or while playing an array of card games. Her family remembers her not only for her selflessness and willingness to help anyone in need but also for her infectious laughter and competitive spirit. A passionate player of Bunco, King on the Corner, Buzzard & Hen, and other games, she brought joy and cheer to every gathering.

A proud Christian, Jean was a longstanding member of both the Milford Christian Church and the Syracuse Church of God. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and perhaps more than anything, she would want to be remembered for her unwavering love of Christ and her deep devotion to her family.

Jean is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Kristie (Richard) Essig of Syracuse; her son, Randy Niles of Syracuse; her grandson, Jay (Shawna) Koontz of North Webster; her granddaughter Kamby (Ben Shue) Essig of Fort Wayne; four great-grandchildren, and her sister, May "Darlene" Hawkins of Nappanee, Indiana.

Jean was married to Donald "PeeWee" Niles on February 14, 1947; the pair shared nearly 36 years before his untimely death. She also was preceded in passing by her parents, Ralph and Grace Neff and companion, Robert Keiler. 

Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1001 South Huntington Street, Syracuse, IN is entrusted with care of Jean. The family will receive visitors there on Wednesday, October 23 from 11 am to 1 pm. Beginning at 1 p.m. Pastor Stan Owen (ret.) will lead those in attendance in a Life Celebration Service®. Burial will follow at Syracuse Cemetery.
