Daniel Fletcher Shanbeck, 83, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 in Dade City, Florida.
Dan was born July 6, 1931 in Pierceton, Indiana to Alpheus A. and Victoria (Stinebaugh) Shanbeck.
He was a 1953 graduate of Manchester College. Dan attended North Winona Church of the Brethren when living in Kosciusko County. He enjoyed electronics and music.
Dan entered the United States Army June 15, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana and served during the Korean War. He was an instructor at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. CPL Daniel Fletcher Shanbeck was honorably discharged June 14, 1956 through Huntsville, Alabama.
Following his discharge from the Army he pursued a career in electronics with RCA in Greenland and Kwajalein, Marshall Islands in the Pacific until his retirement in 1974.
On December 24, 1975, he and Virginia P. Pittman were married in Lutz, Florida.
Although a Warsaw native, he would retire in the Tampa, Florida area.
Dan is survived by his wife, Virginia P. Shanbeck of Dade City.
He was preceded in death by his father: Alpheus A. Shanbeck (January 12, 1964); mother: Victoria Shanbeck (August 7, 1977); and 2 sisters: Thelma M. Lozier (September 18, 2004) and Gladys M. Kerlin (August 18, 1992); and her brother: Dale Shanbeck (January 4, 2002).
Family and friends will gather Thursday, May 28th from 12 Noon – 1 PM at TITUS FUNERAL HOME, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580 for a time of sharing memories. Then beginning at 1 PM a memorial service celebrating Dan’s life will take place with Pastor Bob Jarboe, Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
