David A. Melton, Sr. a longtime resident of Warsaw, passed away at Paddock Springs Healthcare, Warsaw on Monday, June 5, 2023 5:45 p.m. He was 83 years old.
Dave, as most knew him, was born in Montpelier, OH on February 24, 1940. He was an accomplished drummer in his high school band and in many bands after. Dave was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43). While serving, he also entertained fellow seamen on-board and off-board with his drumming skills.
Dave was a hard worker, spending most of his career in RV work. He worked in several roles but primarily as a laminator. He retired from Monaco Coach, Wakarusa, in 2005.
More personally, Dave is remembered for his love of his family; time spent with his wife, kids and grandkids was precious. He also enjoyed watching war movies, chatting with friends from the Navy and, of course, playing drums.
Dave was married to Nancy Biddle on July 27, 1963. She preceded him in passing in January of 2021. Dave was also preceded in passing by his parents; brother, Bobby Melton; sister, Billie Hunter and son, David Melton, Jr., who passed less than one year ago. He is survived by son, Nicholas (Amy) Melton; grandchildren: Zach Frantz, Dana Heath, Ashleigh Shepherd, Nikole McCarthy, Britny Melton, Kyleigh Melton, Griffin Melton and Brenden Melton, two sisters: Linda Goodnight and Brenda Shafer; his step-mother, Sue Bryant; and several great-grandchildren.
