Deloris L. “Rene” Hayes, 83 and loved by many, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 10:18 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2015 at her home. She was born on April 11, 1932 in Marshall County, IN to Cleo & Estelle (Pierce) Frazier.
She graduated from Wawasee High School in Syracuse. She was married on October 16, 1954 to James R. Priest who preceded her on March 9, 1964. She then married James H. Hayes on February 1, 1970 and he preceded her on December 7, 2001. She was a homemaker and formerly worked at Penn Control in Goshen, I.U.S.B. Cafeteria in South Bend, and at Twentieth Century (6 &15) Restaurant in New Paris. She formerly lived in Kansas, Germany, Georgia, South Bend, and Nappanee, and made lifelong friends wherever she went.
She was a member of the former Church of the Brethren in Syracuse, Eagles Lodge in South Bend & was a volunteer at the Syracuse Community Center. She was on several bowling leagues, enjoyed crocheting, traveling, bingo and was an avid card player. She was also always quick with a joke, a smile and a hug.
She is survived by:
4 loving Daughters – Melodie Hale of Osceola; Brenda (Stephen) Strope of Mishawaka; Deborah Hayes of South Bend; & Tina (Stephen) Roussos of Freeman, SD
8 beloved Grandchildren as well as 14 Great Grandchildren, all of whom she loved so much.
Brother – Lawrence “Doc” (Mary) Frazier of Millersburg
Countless cousins, nieces & nephews who loved her dearly.
She was preceded by her parents, 2 husbands, son – Kenneth Hayes, great grandson – Izaya Michael Baiz-Hickey, sister – Ruth Frazier, & 3 brothers – Cecil, Willard & Lewis "Lewie" Frazier.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Syracuse Community Center, 1013 N. Long Dr., Syracuse, IN with Rev. Stephen Roussos of the Freeman Missionary Church officiating. A Celebration of Life with food, music, memories and plenty of laughter will follow. All are welcome.
Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd. 15, Warsaw, IN. Owen family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN is in charge of arrangements.
