Donald L. Quine, 97, formerly of Winona Lake, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 4:20 AM in Hearth at Tudor Gardens, Zionsville, Indiana.
Born the second of four children, Don was born December 17, 1917 in Warsaw to Clayton Leroy and Edith Alzina (Archer) Quine.
Don was a 1935 graduate of North Webster High School. He studied refrigeration and air conditioning by correspondence from Utilities Engineering in Chicago, Illinois following his military service.
On June 21, 1941 he and Fern E. Taylor were married in Warsaw, Indiana.
Don entered the United States Army Air Corp at Fort Benjamin Harrison on August 15, 1940. He graduated from 2 air corp tech schools in 1941. He served at several training centers in the United States and was deployed to the Philippine Islands and Okinawa in 1945. Don was a member of the 405th Bomber Squadron. He was part of the air offensive in Japan, China Coast, Luzon and Burma. Technical Sergeant Donald Leroy Quine was honorably discharged on January 25, 1946 through Camp Atterbury.
Living most of his life in Winona Lake he was employed by local business for 9 years. Then in 1955 he started his own business – Quine Heating & Cooling – and remained its owner until his retirement in December 2002.
Don was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church where he served as trustee for many years along with other activities of the church. Don served for 10 years on the Grace Village Board and was a volunteer from its beginning. He was a past member of Gideons International, Winona Lake Lions Club and a life member of Warsaw American Legion Post #49. Don had great love for his family and always had a loving respect for his many friends and people in general.
With love and memories to treasure those he leaves behind are his daughter: Deana C. Quine from Indianapolis, Indiana; son and daughter-in-law: Douglas and Wendy Quine of Victorville, California; 4 grandchildren: Jason and Karen Smith and Shera and Jermaine Chaney - all of Indianapolis; Adam Quine and Jennifer Quine – both of California; as well as 15 great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his wife: Fern Edwina Quine (June 3, 2012), son: Michael Quine (1945), granddaughter: Laura Quine, and 3 siblings and their spouses: Dorothy and Ordie Miller, Marjorie and Bud Will and Fred and Darlene Quine.
A private family service will be held with Dr. Brent Sandy of Winona Lake Grace Brethren officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
