Donald Scearce

Donald G. “Don” Scearce, 80, of Syracuse, IN (Dewart Lake) passed away at 10:24 a.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at his home. He was born on August 22, 1930 in Danville, IN to Charles Glynden “Glenn” & Laurel “Marie” (Arnold) Scearce.
He graduated in 1948 from Marion High School and in 1952 from Purdue University with his B.S.M.E. Degree. He was married on June 21, 1952 in Syracuse, IN (Dewart Lake) to Martha L. “Marty” Whitehead who survives. He served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955 in the Counter Intelligence Corps. He moved to Kosciusko County in 1966 from Fort Wayne, IN and retired in 1997 as the owner / operator of Scearce and Associates, Inc., (an architectural / engineering firm) in Warsaw for 25 years. He was formerly employed with General Electric in Fort Wayne from 1952 – 1966 and Depuy Manufacturing in Warsaw.
He had a lifelong interest in Scouting, serving as cub master to 118 boys and served for many years on the Executive Council of the Anthony Wayne Area Boy Scouts. He also was the recipient of the Eagle Scout, Good Scout, and Silver Beaver Awards. He was a former president of the Baer Field Kiwanis Club in Fort Wayne and a current member of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club with forty one years of perfect attendance. He served on the Bowen Center and North Webster SPEC Boards and was a recent president of the Dewart Lake Protective Association. He was a master woodcarver, enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, bridge, crosswords, and his many friends.

Son – Gary (wife, Vickie) Scearce of Crown Point, IN
5 Grand – Matthew & Katie Scearce, Allie, Bill & Michael Rice
2 Gt. Grandchildren – Skylar & Julian Scearce
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother – Keith Scearce.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, 7822 E. Epworth Forest Rd, North Webster, IN with Pastor David Smitley of the church officiating. Private family burial will take place at the Salem Cemetery in Milford.
