Donald E. “Gene” Ringler, 87, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 1:56 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Warsaw Meadows in Warsaw, IN. He was born on June 12, 1929 in Syracuse, IN to Donald Edward and Alta Blanche (Kolberg) Ringler.
He attended Syracuse High School and was a United States Army veteran. He lived in Syracuse until 1974 and then returned to Syracuse in 2003 from Fort Myers, FL. He retired as road truck driver for Gateway Transportation Co. in La Crosse, WI after 30 years.
He was a member of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel in Syracuse, American Legion #223 in Syracuse, Eagles Lodge in Syracuse, Moose Lodge in Fort Meyers Beach, FL, and former member of the V.F.W. Post #1342 in Syracuse. He enjoyed fishing, boating, Chicago Cubs, and the Harlem Globetrotters.
He is survived by:
2 Sons- Dennis Ringler & Douglas (Cheryl) Ringler both of Syracuse
1 Daughter- Deborah (J.R.) Miller of Syracuse
11 Grand, 16 Gt. Grand, and 10 Gt. Gt. Grandchildren
1 Sister- Virginia Jones of Milford, IN
Half Sister – Marilyn Rhodes of North Webster
He was preceded by in death by his parents and Grandson – Christopher Ringler.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St. Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016 in the funeral home with Pastor Harlan Steffen of church officiating. Military graveside rites will be follow in the North Webster Cemetery by Syracuse American Legion Post 223.
