Donna Jean Kolar, known by all as “Jean,” passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 2 am. She was 94 years old when and passed shortly after being admitted to Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, Indiana.
She was born on November 11, 1921 in Kosciusko County where she would spend the majority of her lifetime. Jean was the daughter of Idyl D. Hoffer and Fay (Leiter) Hoffer. She was a 1939 graduate of Warsaw High School.
On June 30, 1945 she was married to Chester G. Kolar in Iowa City, Iowa. He preceded her in death, having passed on August 19, 1984.
For a period of 75 years, Jean had been employed as a legal and financial secretary. In 1992, she retired from her final position as financial secretary at First United Methodist Church, Warsaw. In addition to serving as their secretary, Jean had attended there since she was merely 13 years old.
A woman of many talents, Jean enjoyed sewing and Needlepoint. She liked to read and play Bridge. She also enjoyed music and was a forty-year member of her church’s choir.
Those left to cherish the memories of a life well-lived include son and daughter-in-law: Timothy and Sally Kolar of Warsaw; two grandsons and their wives: Jon and Melissa Tyler of Leesburg and Tim and Sheila Tyler of Aruba, Caribbean and five great-grandchildren: Luke, Lily, Rachel, Jacob and Rebekah Tyler, all at home. Also surviving are her brother: Max Hoffer of Noblesville, Indiana; two nieces and their husbands: Janis and Stanley Sutton of Noblesville and Kristine and Kim Akers of Noblesville; and four nephews: Larry Hoffer of Leesburg, Dan Hoffer of Warsaw, Paul Hoffer of Warsaw and Ron Hoffer of Warsaw.
In addition to her husband, Chester, those who preceded Jean in passing include her parents: Idyl and Fay Hoffer-Stickler (November 7, 1971 & November 25, 2002, respectively); step-father: Joe Stickler (August 3, 1973) and brother: Rex Hoffer (May 25, 1991).
Friends may join family to visit and share memories of Jean on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 5 to 8 at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw. A funeral service which celebrates her life will be held on Tuesday at 11am, also in the funeral home; Reverend Stanley Sutton, nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery.
