Douglas M. “Red” Barnett, 80, of North Webster, IN passed away at 6:59 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born on July 9, 1936 in Bartley, WV to Zell and Lillian (Spears) Barnett.
He grew up in West Virginia, attended public schools in War, WV, and moved to the North Webster area in 1950 from Bartley, WV. He was a United States Army veteran and on Jan. 2, 1954, in Columbia City, IN, he married Audrey Cox who survives. He retired in 2001 from Fairmount Homes in Nappanee, IN after 15 years as a fork lift driver and formerly worked at Commodore Homes, Liberty Homes, & Regent Homes all in Syracuse.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 484 in Millersburg & former member of the V.F.W. Post 1382 in Syracuse. He was a longtime umpire for the youth baseball leagues in North Webster.

Brother – Roger Barnett of Fort Walton Beach, FL
3 Half Sisters – Phyllis (Richard) Stark of South Whitley; Sandra Beeler of Muncie; & Linda Ramsey of Middletown, IN
He was preceded in death by his parents, gt. grandson – Quentin Moore, sister – Pat Brower, and half-brother- Bill Davidson
Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd 15, Warsaw, IN. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd 13 & CR 500N, North Webster, IN. Memorial services will follow at 12:00 noon in the funeral home with Pastor Brad Cox of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating. Burial will take place at the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery.
Memorial bequests may be given to the American Cancer Society, 130 Red Coach Dr., Mishawaka, IN 46545. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
