Skip A. Mumford, age 75, of Silver Lake, passed away peacefully at his residence on January 20, 2024. He was born on July 19, 1948 to Earnest & Ruby (Nelson) Mumford. Skip was well known in and around Silver Lake as he grew up there his entire life. He was in the last class to graduate from Silver Lake High School in 1966.
After high school, Skip was drafted with the Marines and served in Vietnam. After returning Skip had a fulfilling career as the owner and operator of his own plumbing business. Beyond his professional achievements Skip had an immense passion for sports, particularly the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team. Additionally, he was a skilled taekwondo practitioner who held the esteemed rank of a 2nd Degree Black Belt. This martial art gave him discipline and strength throughout his life.
The outdoors held a special place in Skip's heart. Whether he was golfing on green fairways or riding his motorcycle along scenic routes, he found solace in nature. He loved spending time cutting wood and indulging in woodworking projects. Skip was also well known for his grilling delicious meals for his family.
Skip was a longtime member of the Warsaw VFW and the Warsaw American Legion Post #49.
Skip's proudest accomplishment was his unwavering love and devotion to his family, who will forever cherish the profound impact he had on their lives. He is survived by his daughter Stacy (Spencer) Mikel of Mentone. His grandchildren, Alona (Geoffrey) Cavander of Winona Lake, Jonah (Mackenzie) Mikel of Elkhart, and Jared (Taylor Thomas) Mikel of Iowa; and great-grandchildren, Noah and Hattie, He is also survived by his brother Edward (Shirley) Mumford of Claypool, aunt Ann Sweet of Warsaw, a dear close friends Orville Haney and Patricia Irelan, and his beloved dog Izzy. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Connie Long.
A Life Celebration® visitation will be held on January 30, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Beaver Dam Community Church in Akron, Indiana. Starting at 5:30 PM Pastor Butch Troke will officiate the funeral service. Burial will take place at Lake View Cemetery on March 22, 2024 at 11 AM. Arrangements are entrusted to Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Warsaw 2000 Sheridan Street, Warsaw, IN.
