Biography
Earnest A. Mumford, 88, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 8:25 AM in his Silver Lake, Indiana home.
Earnest was born in Brookville, Pennsylvania on April 16, 1927 to Lewis and Rachel L. (Reed) Mumford.
She and Ruby D. Nelson were joined in marriage in Silver Lake on August 18, 1946.
Earnest served in the United States Navy during World War ll in the South Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Norton Sound. Cox Swain Earnest Alexander Mumford was honorably discharged on June 4, 1946.
Living in Kosciusko County since 1947, Earnest was the owner and operator of Mumford Plumbing and Heating of Silver Lake and Claypool for 47 years.
His first love was his wife, Ruby; second was fishing. He liked using his chain saw and enjoyed the plumbing business and gardening. Earnest was a past commander and life member of Silver Lake American Legion Post #141.
Survivors include 2 sons: Ernest Alan “Skip” Mumford of Silver Lake and Edward Dean Mumford of Claypool, Indiana; daughter: Connie Long of Warsaw, Indiana; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Earnest was preceded by in death by his wife: Ruby Mumford on March 7, 2003; two brothers: Grant Mumford (May 15, 2012) and Wayne Mumford; and his sister: Helen Rhoades.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, where military graveside honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
The family has asked that memorial gifts be given to the American Legion Post #49 Building Fund, 301 N. Buffalo Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580.
