Edith E. Watkins, 88, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 2:42 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at IU Health Goshen Hospital in Goshen, IN.  She was born on March 11, 1923 in Saranac Lake, NY to Hugo R. & Edith (Mapes) Franz.
She graduated in 1940 from Saranac Lake High School in Saranac Lake, NY.  She moved to Huntington, IN from New York in the early 1950’s and then to Syracuse in 1953.  On July 17, 1953 in Syracuse she married Eldon J. (Bud) Watkins and he preceded her on July 4, 2009.
She was a linotype operator and type setter for several newspapers in Saranac Lake, Orchard Park, & East Aurora, all in New York State. Upon moving to Huntington, IN she worked at the United Brethren Publishing House. She assisted her husband on the family farm for many years.
She was a member of the North Webster Church of God and formerly attended the Zion Chapel United Brethren Church in Syracuse where she was secretary/treasurer of the administrative board and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a former member of the Goodwill Home Economics Club in Syracuse.
She is survived by:
Daughter – Mrs. Tony (Robyn) Tilson of Syracuse
2 Grandsons – Jonathan (wife, Teresa) McCullough of Syracuse & Justin (wife, Claire) McCullough of Noblesville, IN
1 Gt. Granddaughter – Grace McCullough of Noblesville
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers – Hugo Jr., Richard, Edward, & William Franz; 2 Sister – Doretha Weiand & Emma Rothaus
Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6- 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at North Webster Church of God with Pastor Jeff Boyer officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.

Memorial bequest may be given to North Webster Church of God. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
