Edward A. Hoffman, 83, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 10:55 AM in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Edward was born May 16, 1932 in Fulton County, Indiana to William Foster and Eathel (Drudge) Hoffman.
He served with the Army Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base.
He lived most of his life in the Claypool, Indiana area and on July 10, 1954 in Akron, Indiana he and Martha L. Wharton were joined in holy matrimony.
Edward was a farmer and a gunsmith at Schutz Brothers in North Manchester, Indiana. He also was a service manager for McKown Cadillac, Smith Ford and Schaefer Ford. He owned and operated Ed’s Repair Shop in Claypool and was a clerk and mechanic for the United Telephone garage in Warsaw. Ed retired from Biomet.
Edward was a 50 year member of Warsaw Masonic Lodge F&AM and Warsaw Order of the Eastern Star. He was past master of Sidney Masonic Lodge F&AM and former member of Akron Masonic Lodge F&AM. Ed was a member of Fort Wayne Mizpah Shrine and Fort Wayne Scottish Rite. He also held a membership in the American Legion Post #49 and the NRA. He was a member of Gulf Shores (Alabama) United Methodist Church and for many years, he was also the emcee for the church’s Snowbird Club. Many vacations were spent working with various mission projects in Haiti. Edward was a professional dance roller skater where he won Gold Medal Skater award. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed fishing and making fishing flies. Edward enjoyed shooting and participated in shooting contests. He also enjoyed playing guitars.
Edward will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family including Martha, his wife of sixty one years; 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Kathy R. and William Hamman of Winona Lake, Indiana and Michelle S. and Don Hirschaut of Aptos, California; son: Rick Hoffman, Rochester, Indiana; 4 grandchildren: Jay Hamman of Carbondale, Illinois; Sara (Hamman) McConnell, Warsaw, Indiana; Meridith Hirschaut of Chico, California and Nathan Hirschaut, Aptos; 1 great grandson: William Isaac McConnell; and a sister: Emogene Daine of Rochester.
Edward’s 3 brothers, Wayne Hoffman, Earl Hoffman and Rev. Elvin Hoffman preceded him in death.
Family and friends will come together for a time of sharing in support of each other Tuesday, September 8th from 2-8 PM at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. A Masonic Memorial Service will take place Tuesday evening at 7:30. There will be an additional hour of visitation prior to the funeral. A service celebrating Edward’s life will take place Wednesday, September 9th at 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Officiating will be Clark Shepherd, founder of A.C.T.S. (Allowing Christ to Shine – an organization dedicated to helping the children of Haiti).
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, where there will be military graveside honors conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
The family has asked that gifts in Edward’s memory be directed to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 2211 Oak Park Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60707.
