Elinor E. Avery, 77, of Plymouth, IN (formerly of Syracuse, IN) passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 in McAllen, TX. She was born on July 17, 1940 in Warsaw, IN to John & Francis (Estep) Holloway.
She graduated in 1958 from Syracuse High School and was married on June 5, 1971 in Syracuse, IN to Frederick L. “Fred” Avery who survives. She retired from Monsanto Corp. in Ligonier after 35+ years of service and was at that time the highest ranking female employee at the plant. She lived most of her life in the Syracuse / Plymouth area and wintered in McAllen, TX.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Goshen, American Legion Auxiliary in Syracuse, and enjoyed crafts.
She is survived by:
Husband – Fred Avery of Plymouth
Daughter – Joni (Vivin) Pearson of McKinney, TX
Son – David (Karen) Denney of Plymouth
Step Son – Fred (Cheryl) Avery of Wakarusa
5 Grandchildren - Ray Soto II, Carrie Avery, Emily Denney, Tommy Avery, and Paige Massey Pearson
Gt. Granddaughter – Avery Soto
Sister – Mary Bowlin of Fort Wayne
Brother – John Holloway of Syracuse
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson – Vincent Soto , and 2 brothers – Hallie & Ashley Holloway.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 in the funeral home with Pastor Kirk Barger of the Wawasee Community Bible Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be given to the American Legion Post 223 Auxiliary.
