Elmer W. Berrey, 82, of Brownsburg, IN (former weekend resident of Lake Wawasee in Syracuse, IN) died at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on July 10, 1927 in Olathe, KS to William Jesse & Della V. (Wiltsie) Berrey.
He graduated in 1945 from Bonner Springs High School in Bonner Springs, KS, 1955 from Purdue University and received his Master's Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He retired from the State Board of Health as an inspector in Indianapolis, IN and was a former school teacher. He moved to Brownsburg in 2004 from Edwardsport, IN and spent many weekends at Lake Wawasee in Syracuse.
He was a member of the Bicknell Baptist Church in Bicknell, IN and was a United States Army Veteran.
He is survived by:
2 Daughters - Mrs. Donald (Louise) McClintic of Brownsburg, IN & Syracuse; Mrs. William (Dayna) Tucker Highland, MD;
1 Son - David (wife, Grace) Berrey of Indianapolis, IN;
5 Grandchildren;
1 Sister - Catherine Buck of Wisconsin;
2 Brothers - Everett Berrey of Idaho & Lloyd Berrey of Arizona.
He was preceded by his parents and 1 brother - Harvey Berrey.
There will be no public visitation or services. Burial will be in the McClintic Cemetery in Syracuse, IN. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial bequest may be given to the choice of the donor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
