Evelyn M. Jones 89, of Warsaw, IN (formerly of Syracuse, IN) passed away at 1:35 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Mason Health Care in Warsaw. She was born on January 5, 1922 in Syracuse to Raymond and Elva (Vorhis) Bitner.
She was a lifetime Syracuse area resident and graduated in 1940 from Syracuse High School. She was married on July 27, 1940 in Syracuse to Gaylord E. Jones who preceded her in September 1985. She formerly owned and operated Jones Interiors in Syracuse for 10 years and was co-owner with her husband of Monarch Industries in Syracuse, Goshen and Elkhart.
She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, Order of Eastern Star in Goshen and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 223 in Syracuse.
She is survived by:
2 Daughters – Letitia “Tish” Clevenger of Syracuse & Mrs. Doug (Cindy) Wells of Wixon, MI
1 Son - Jay (wife, Sheryl) Jones of Fort Meyers, FL
8 Grandchildren & 10 Great Grandchildren
1 Sister – Mrs. Clair (Phyllis) Archer of Cromwell
1 Brother – Gerald “Jake” (wife, Pat) Bitner of Syracuse
She was preceded by her parents, husband, daughter – Cheryl Swartz, twins – Daryl & Carol Jones, & sister – Fredona Custer – Ruch.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St. Syracuse, IN with Order of Eastern Star services to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.

Memorial bequest may be given to Syracuse Public Library, 115 E. Main St., Syracuse, IN. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
