Everett G. Sowers of Indianapolis, IN (formerly of Leesburg, IN) passed away at 10:05 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013 at Brookdale Place of Fall Creek in Indianapolis. He was born on October 24, 1922 in Lapaz, IN to Victor & Dolly (Holland) Sowers.
He graduated in 1940 from Lapaz High School and was married on March 1, 1944 in Warsaw, IN to Roberta B. Perkins who preceded him on October 24, 2012. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He moved from Valparaiso, IN to Warsaw in 1952, then to the Leesburg area in 1968 before moving to Indianapolis in 2012. He retired from Conrail Railroad in 1984 as a Station Agent after 45 years of service.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in North Webster, Lakeland Kiwanis in North Webster, and American Legion Post 49 in Warsaw. He was a former member of the Warsaw Lions Club.
He is survived by:
2 Sons – Steve (wife, Rita) Sowers of Indianapolis & Randy (wife, Joyce) of Mishawaka
5 Grand & 7 Gt. Grand
Sister – Mrs. Willy (Myrna) Hernandez of Van Wert, OH
2 Brothers – Blaine (wife, Esther) Sowers of Leo & Lowell (wife, Elizabeth) Sowers of South Bend
He was preceded by his parents, wife, 2 sisters – Karen Deaval & Margret Nicklas, & 2 Brothers – Victor & Marvin Sowers
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, 7822 E. Epworth Forest Rd., North Webster, IN. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Monday in the church with Pastor David Smitley of the church officiating. Military graveside services will be held on Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.
Memorial bequest may be given to the United Methodist Church, 7822 E. Epworth Forest Rd., North Webster, IN 46555. Envelopes will be available at the church.
