Florence “Dottie” Baker passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 1:20 PM in Season’s Home Care, Warsaw, Indiana. Dottie was 96.
Born on April 22, 1920 in Osceola, Indiana, she was the daughter of Clarence E. and Ella Arvilla (Long) Richards.
On May 21, 1938 Dottie was wed to Max R. Baker in South Bend, Indiana. Together the two would share more than fifty years of memories. Max passed away on January 15, 1990.
Dottie worked as a beautician and operated Dottie's Beauty Shop. She retired in 2007 after fifty years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Warsaw and the Church’s Evening Circle. She was a 55-year member of the Warsaw Women’s Bowling Association and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame (1992-1993). She was also a member of the Lambda Chi Omega Sorority and, in 2000, was awarded the Warsaw Heart of Gold Award.
A woman who was happiest doing something for others, Dottie was a volunteer for Warsaw Biblical Gardens and was crowned Kosciusko County Senior Queen in 2004.
Those who love Dottie dearly and are left to treasure her memory include two daughters: Sue (and husband Ben) Bradway of Warsaw, IN and Sally (and husband Karl) Shriver of Monticello, IN; four grandchildren: Brad Drudge, Ammie Devenney, Jason Shriver and Jennifer Shriver, and five great-grandchildren: Justin, Jeremy, Olivia, Owen and Jace.
In addition to her husband, Max, Dottie was preceded in death by three sisters: Eva Williams, Pauline Richards and Vera Martens; four brothers: Thomas Richards, Donald Richards, Ernest Richards and Raymond Richards.
Friends may join family for a time of visitation on Wednesday, July 6th 2016 from 4 to 8 PM in Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw. A Lambda Chi Omega service will take place at 7:30 pm.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Dottie Baker will be held on Thursday morning at 10 am in the funeral home with Pastor Bill Wood of Packerton United Methodist Church officiating.
The family has asked that gifts in memory of Dottie be given to First United Methodist Church, Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County or to Lambda Chi Omega Sorority, c/o Sandy Nellans, 2706 Widaman Street, Winona Lake, Indiana 46590.
