Francis W. “Sock” Shear, 89, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 2:10 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2010 at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse. He was born on September 1, 1920 in North Webster, IN to Elmer W. and Mary Sims (Merriman) Shear.
He was a lifetime area resident and attended North Webster Public Schools. He was married on July 30, 1946 in North Webster to Ardith “Joan” Scott who survives. He was former co-owner / operator of Socks Marina in North Webster for 10 years. He was formerly employed at Syracuse Rubber Company, Liberty Coach and a custodian for North Webster High School. He was a member of Salem Community Missionary Church in Wilmot, IN.
He is survived by:
Wife –Joan Shear of Syracuse
1 Son – Bill Shear of Ligonier, IN
2 Daughters – Mrs. Gary (Brenda) Clark of Goshen, IN and Lisa Shear of Louisville, KY
5 Grandchildren
2 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded by his parents and 1 brother – Robert Shear
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St. Syracuse, IN. Funeral Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Jack Stump of the church officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Salem Cemetery in Wilmot, IN.
