Gail R. Bowman, 91, of Pierceton, IN passed away at 8:55 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, IN. He was born on September 1, 1919 in Decatur, IN to Charles A. & Velma O. (Lenhart) Bowman.
He grew up in Rockford, IN and attended public schools there before moving to the Pierceton area. He was married on September 9, 1940 in La Fontaine, IN to Betty L. Weicht who preceded him in death in May 1966. He was a self employed carpenter and was formerly employed at Weatherhead Corp. in Columbia City for 10 years.
He was a World War II Navy Veteran and was a life member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster & V.F.W. in Syracuse. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Bradenton, FL
where he lived for 30 years before returning to Pierceton.
He is survived by:
Son – Samuel E. (wife, Diana) Bowman of Pierceton
Granddaughter – Mrs. Tony (Kelly M.) McMillen of Ft. Wayne
Grandson – Eric E. Bowman of Pierceton
Gt. Granddaughter – Megan McMillen of Fort Wayne
Brother – Jim Bowman of Bluffton, IN
Several nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, companion – Em, sister – Madelyn Mosure, & brother – Kenneth Bowman.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & CR 500N, North Webster, IN. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Mike Beezley of the Clunette United Methodist Church officiating. Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster following the service. Private family burial will take place in the Rockford Cemetery.
