Gene L. Slone passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 10:00 p.m. in Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw, Indiana at the age of 63. Gene, the son of Woodrow and Vina (Whitaker) Slone, was born January 29, 1952 in Wabash, Indiana. He was a 1971 graduate of Warsaw Community High School. A lifetime Warsaw resident, Gene had been employed at R.R. Donnelley and Sons for 30 years. He retired in 2000 as a roll tender. Gene was a charter member, trustee and past president of VFW #1126 Men’s Auxiliary and a member of the Northern Hoosier Pool League. He loved to ride his motorcycle. Gene had a good sense of humor and never met a stranger. Survivors include his companion: Denise Messer of Warsaw; son and daughter-in-law: Brandon and Alicia Slone of Akron, Indiana; daughter: Emily Ann Slone, Warsaw; step daughter and step son-in-law: Jerrica and Tyler Marshall, Warsaw; step son and step daughter-in-law: Logan and Amanda Messer of Milford, Indiana; 4 grandchildren; 3 sisters: Brozie Elliott, Alvalee Engle and Jane Carroll – all of Warsaw; and a brother and sister-in-law: Larry and Teresa Slone of South Whitley, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his father: Woodrow Slone; mother: Vina Cleveland; step father: Clayton Cleveland; brother: James Slone (March 23, 2007) and a sister: Vonda Smith (March 1, 2003). Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing in support of one another Wednesday, October 28th from 4-8 PM at TITUS FUNERAL HOME, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580. A service celebrating Gene’s life will take place Thursday, October 29th at 1 PM at the funeral home. Pastor Glenn Hall of Harvest Community Church, Pierceton, Indiana will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, Indiana. The family has asked that memorial contributions be given to the family and will be used at their discretion.
