George R. Guyas, 83, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse. He was born on December 11, 1930 in Defiance, OH to Joseph G. & Winona Marie (Gloor) Guyas.
He grew up in Ohio, attended public schools there, and moved to Knapp Lake in 1953 from Ohio. He was married on November 12, 1955 in Kimmell, IN to Sharon R. Snowberger who survives. He lived for many years in Ligonier before moving to Syracuse. He was the former co-owner / operator of Macy’s Wawasee Slip in Syracuse from 1954 until his retirement in 2000.
He was a master craftsman on wood boats, loved woodworking and camping.

Daughter – Tina (Phil) Ball of Ligonier
2 Sons – Jeff (Peggy) Guyas of Syracuse & Greg (Corine) Guyas of Summerfield, FL
5 Grand - Jeremiah (Rhoda) Ball, Olivia (Jonathan) Kline, Joel (Natalie) Guyas, Tyler Guyas and Justin Guyas
3 Gt. Grandchildren - Audrey Kline, Juliette Ball and Colten Kline
2 Sisters – Margaret (Darwin) Hursey of Cisco, IL & Donna Pepple of Ligonier
He was preceded in death by his parents & brother – Bill Guyas.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN and 1 hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Brad Cox of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating. Burial will follow in the Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN.
