Gerald "Jerry" G. Young, of Dewart Lake, passed peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 25, 1939, in Olaton, Kentucky, the son of Brinton and Bertha Young (Faught).

Jerry dedicated his professional life to the railroad, where he worked as a Locomotion Engineer for Amtrak for 43 years until his retirement in July of 2000.

 Throughout his life, Jerry was known as a loving dad and husband, always placing family first. On June 11, 1977, he married Carolyn Smith-Hollingworth. They shared a wonderful 45 years together before her passing in April of last year. For 48 years, Jerry and Carolyn made their home on Dewart Lake, where they cherished the beauty of nature, often visiting with their family to create lasting memories. Jerry loved traveling, especially to Florida and California. He also was an avid gardener.

 Jerry leaves behind his children, Tereasa Cook, Gerald "Kerry" Young, Gernel Gallagher, and Raymond Hollingsworth. His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren: Jamie Dombrowski, Nicholas Cook, Trevor Hollingsworth, Trisha Gallagher, Cara Young, Stephen Gallagher, Kevin Gallagher, and Kelly Gallagher, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Madison Dombrowski. He is further survived by his two sisters, Wanda and Jeanie Poole, as well as many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in passing by his parents, wife, and brother, Eddie Young.
