Graham R. Meier

October 3, 1929 — January 18, 2018

Graham R. Meier, 88, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse.  He was born on October 3, 1929 in Milford, IN (Decatur County) to Raymond Curtis and Ora Mildred (Graham) Meier.

He graduated in 1947 from Greensburg High School and received his BS & MS Degrees in agriculture & education from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. He was married on April 2, 1951 in Biloxi, MS to Wilma L. Goins who preceded him on March 5, 2015, was a United States Korean Air Force veteran, and moved to Syracuse in 1971 from Economy, IN.

He was a retired teacher who taught Industrial Arts at Hagerstown, IN for 1 year, Agriculture & General Science at New Washington for 7 years, Madison Consolidated High School for 1 year, Triton Central High School for 2 years, Warsaw High School for 6 years, and was a substitute teacher for Wawasee Community Schools for many years.  He was also formerly employed at Chore Time & Maple Leaf Feed Mill both of Milford.

He was a member of the Wawasee Heights Baptist Church in Syracuse, Wawasee Camp of the Gideon’s International in Syracuse, and former member of the Milford Lion’s Club.

He is survived by:

2 Daughters - Katherine (Phil Herbertz) Parker of Plainfield, IN & Carol) (Ray) Spires of Elkhart

3 Sons – Gary Meier of Syracuse, Jerry Meier of Scottsburg, IN, and Joseph Meier of Elkhart

8 Grand & 2 Gt. Grandchildren

2 Sisters – Kathleen Robbins of Scottsburg & Vera (Mike) Lewis of Canyon City, CO

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister Mary Jane Taylor.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Wawasee Heights Baptist Church, 504 S. Syracuse Webster Rd., Syracuse with Pastor Pat Park officiating. Burial will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
