Grant Salyer of Silver Lake, Indiana, having just celebrated his 100th birthday, passed away Friday, August 12, 2016 at 2:06 p.m. in Warsaw’s Mason Healthcare Unit where he had been a patient for only a few short months.
The son of John and Dora (Adams) Salyer, Grant was born in Oil Spring, Kentucky on July 28, 1916. He and his family moved to Knox, Indiana in 1929.
He was employed by Nickel-Plate Railroad/Norfolk and Western Railroad. He retired in 1976 as a general foreman after 40 years of service.
Grant found the love of his life and on October 16, 1937 he and Flossie M. Allen were joined in holy matrimony. A few years later they would move to Kosciusko County. They honored the vow to share the rest of their lives together until her passing November 2, 2011.
A member of Gospel Pentecostal Church of God for 63 years, Grant served as a deacon and a trustee. Grant and Flossie were inseparable. You wouldn’t leave their home without having a drink of soda or a piece of candy. After his retirement, Grant and Flossie enjoyed buying and selling horses as a hobby. Before they would sell a horse for a young person he made sure they rode the horse with their mom and dad present to be sure the horse and rider were a good fit.

Brown Newman, Warsaw; Teresa L. (and Chuck) Lisenbee, Warsaw; Steve Allen, San Diego, California; Bill (and Becky) Allen, Argos, Indiana; Jenny Allen and John Allen – both of Monticello, Indiana; Benita (and William) Bibler of Winona Lake, Indiana; and Blake Neeley, Indiana; 21 great grandchildren; 20 great, great grandchildren and 1 great, great, great granddaughter; and his last living sibling, a brother: James (and Lillian) Salyer of North Liberty, Indiana.
