Biography
Harold J. VanCleve, 84, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 6:15 PM in his Warsaw, Indiana home.
Harold was born to Hiram and Lois (McCandless) VanCleve August 21, 1930 in North Liberty, Pennsylvania. He was a 1948 graduate of Wilkensburg High School, Wilkensburg, Pennsylvania.
He entered the United States Army where he served as an MP during the Korean War. PFC Harold James VanCleve was honorably discharged May 18, 1961.
He was an adjuster with Auto Owners Insurance Company for 38 years and retired in 1995.
Moving to Warsaw from Pennsylvania in 1949, he attended Dutchtown Brethren Church and was a member of American Legion Post #49.
Survivors include 2 sisters: Ruth Griswold of Warsaw and Lois Strum of Fredericksburg, Virginia; 1 brother: Don VanCleve of Longwood, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his mother: Lois VanCleve, August 21, 1991, father: Hiram VanCleve, January 6, 1973 and sister: Dorothy VanCleve, March 1, 2010.
Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing Monday, July 20th from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580. Then at 12 Noon in the funeral home, a service celebrating Harold’s life will begin. Pastor Jack Worth of Dutchtown Brethren Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Military honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
The family has asked that gifts in Harold’s memory be given to Dutchtown Brethren Church, 4057 E. 300 N, Warsaw, Indiana 46582.
