Heather B. Emel, 28, of Hutchinson, KS passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. She was born on February 22, 1983 in San Angelo, TX to Rev. Mark B. & Rebecca B. (Zimmerman) Emel.
She graduated in 2001 from Hutchinson High School and received her degree from Cowley County Community College in Sign Language Interpretation. She was formerly employed at Unified School District 308 for 4 years as a sign language Paraprofessional and at Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. She was a confirmed member at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson and served as a table parent for the youth club at the church. She belonged to the Twisted Stitches Knitting Club and a local book club in Hutchinson.
She is survived by:
Mother & Stepfather – Mrs. Duane (Becky) Hatfield of Hutchinson
Sister – Crystal Emel of Topeka, KS
2 Brothers – Clayton Emel of Hutchinson & Mark Bryan (wife, Monica) Emel of Tulsa, OK
Maternal Grandfather – Virgil (wife, Doris) Zimmerman of Milford
She was preceded in death by her father, paternal grandparents – Cletus & Donna Emel, and maternal grandmother – Nancy Zimmerman.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Private family graveside service will take place in the Milford Cemetery in Milford, IN with Rev. Joshua Bess, M.D. officiating.
Memorial bequest may be given to Ronald McDonald House, 435 Limestone St., Indianapolis, IN or Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 E. 12 th Ave. Hutchinson, KS 67501. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
