Helen Louise Rhinehart, 95, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 1:20 PM in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, Indiana.
Helen was born June 13, 1919 in Tippecanoe Township of Kosciusko County, Indiana. She was the daughter of William and Mabel (Woodard) Lippincott. Helen attended Oswego/Leesburg (Indiana) schools and was the 1937 class valedictorian at Leesburg High School. She remained a lifetime Kosciusko County resident.
On February 9, 1944 in Warsaw, she became the wife of Noel W. Rhinehart.
Helen was proud to be a homemaker. For all of her life she was taking care of children – most often from her heart with no pay. She began caring for children when her younger sister was born. Her first paying job, though, was right out of high school when she became a nanny. Her largest public contribution began when she aided in the start of the former Warsaw Community Service Day Care and was its director for 13 years.
As a member of First United Methodist Church she served in many areas of the church – especially where children’s ministry was involved. She was also a member of the church’s United Methodist Women. Helen was a former member of Pythian Sisters and Zerelda Reading Club. She enjoyed cross stitching, embroidery work, having lunch with friends and working crossword puzzles. She enjoyed cooking and did so at Epworth Forest church camp for a few years. It was common to see her transporting kids to and from music and sporting events. She also enjoyed writing historical and genealogical pieces that she had researched including the intense research required to be included as a “Pioneer Family of Kosciusko County”. Helen loved spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
With treasured memories she leaves behind 2 children: daughter, Kathleen Leedy of Chattanooga, Tennessee and son, William “Jack” Rhinehart of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 2 grandchildren and their spouses: grandson, Theo and Holly Laughner, Chattanooga and granddaughter, Krista and Sean Knepp of Sevierville, Tennessee; and 6 great grandchildren, John, Audrey, Hannah, Jack, Cote and Zane.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Noel W. Rhinehart (July 10, 1989) and sister, Marie Lippincott (January 29, 2008).
Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing in support of each other Thursday, September 11th from 4-7 PM at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, Indiana.
