Howard William Vanlaningham, 87, of Milford, IN passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010 in Goshen General Hospital. He was born on May 23, 1923 in Marengo, IN to Charles Norman & Lillie Mae (Vance) Vanlaningham.
He grew up in southern Indiana and attended the Milltown Public School System. He lived most of his life in the Milford area and was married on October 4, 1947 in Milford to Mary Jean Wolferman who survives. He retired from Weatherhead / Dana Corporation in 1985 after 34 years of service. He was formerly affiliated with the Civil Conservation Corporation from 1939-1942 in southern Indiana.
He was formerly employed at Solreco Oil Company in Milford for 3 years & was Crossing Guard for Milford Schools for 5 years.
He was a member of the Word of Truth Church in Milford. He volunteered at Teen Parents Succeeding in Syracuse for 2 years. He enjoyed all aspects of gardening, especially grafting and growing methods.

2 Sons – Mark (wife, Melanie) Vanlaningham of Mentone & Terry (wife, Brenda) Vanlaningham of Mentone
8 Grandchildren – Tony Barker, Stephanie Ducheteau, Cameron (wife, Kelly) Vanlaningham, Mrs. JayDee (Hilary) Parker, Cory Vanlaningham, Ben Vanlaningham, Sam Vanlaningham, & Emily (fiancé, Chad Dennie) Vanlaningham.
5 Great Grandchildren – Theresa Ayotte, Josephine Ducheteau, Carson Parker, Noah Vanlaningham, & Carly Vanlaningham

He was preceded in death by his Parents, 4 sisters – Mary Magill, Ruby Richardson, Delsie Stroud, & Dorothy Bundy; 4 Brothers – Bruce, Charles, Robert & Glen Vanlaningham; 1 Half Brother – Kenneth Vanlaningham
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Kelley of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Milford Cemetery.
