Biography
On Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 4:40 PM in Select Hospital (Fort Wayne, Indiana), Irene Rose Kahler peacefully passed away into the loving arms of her Saviour, Jesus Christ. She was 78.
The daughter of Merle and Ruth (Bennett) Riggens, Irene was born September 19, 1935 in Warsaw, Indiana. She was a 1953 graduate of Warsaw High School.
She and Douglas D. Kahler were married October 5, 1960.
A lifelong Warsaw resident, Irene was a homemaker who had been employed by Warsaw Orthopedics for 10 years.
She was a member of the Warsaw Moose Lodge. Irene enjoyed quilting, bowling, gardening, canning and fishing and loved horses. Irene enjoyed the water and was an excellent swimmer. A hard worker, she was generous to a fault. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by 4 daughters and 2 sons-in-law: Lucinda L. Kahler, Warsaw; Ruth and David Mast, Nappanee, Indiana; Kasey LaRue of Warsaw; Kristal and Greg Prater of North Webster, Indiana; 1 son, Douglas C. Kahler of Carbondale, Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Thelma “Pud” Parker of North Manchester, Indiana.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas D. Kahler on March 10, 2005; 2 brothers: Kenneth “Bud” Riggens and Eddie Joe Riggens; and 1 sister, Merlene “Butchie” Blue.
Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing in support of each other Saturday, August 9th from 10-11 AM at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580. A service celebrating the life Irene Rose Kahler will follow beginning at 11 AM in the funeral home. Pastor Norm Reimer of Nappanee Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
The family has asked that gifts in Irene’s memory be given to Our Father’s House, 401 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana 46580.
