James E. "Jim" Hershberger, 96, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 4:35 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his Dewart Lake Home. He was born on October 8, 1916 in Bremen, IN to Clement Conrad & Harriet Etta (Schlosser) Hershberger.
He graduated from Bremen High School and attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. He was married on January 1, 1939 in Plymouth, IN to Mildred Beyler who preceded him in June 1958. He later remarried on February 12, 1959 in Bremen, IN to Elva C. (Haney) Huff who preceded him on February 16, 2012. He was a farmer in Bremen for many years, formerly sold Funks G. Hybrid Corn, was a salesman at Smiley Pole Buildings in Denver, & worked for Borkholder Buildings in Nappanee for several years.
He moved to Syracuse (Dewart Lake) in 1964 from Bremen. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse where he was part of the Questers Class. He was formerly a member and attended Grace United Methodist Church in Bremen.
He is survived by:
2 Daughters – Lois Lindenfeld of Raleigh, NC & Sherry (Bill) Newcum of Syracuse
Son – Phil (wife, Gwen) Hershberger of Bremen
Step Daughter – Donna (Steve) Wagner of Elkhart
Step Son – Keith (wife, Janice) Huff of Marion
9 Grand & 18 Gt. Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 wives, & son – Jay Leslie Hershberger.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN and 1 hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 801 N. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN with Pastor David Herr of the church officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Bremen Cemetery.
