Jerry Wallace Banks, 68, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 2:43 PM in his Warsaw, Indiana home.
Jerry was born September 18, 1945 in Alpena, Michigan. He was inducted into the United States Army December 6, 1945 and served in the Vietnam War. SP5 Jerry Wallace Banks was honorably discharged December 7, 1967.
After his tour of duty with the US Army he moved to Kosciusko County, Indiana. And on October 26, 1985 he and Sharon Lee Boroff were married.
Jerry worked for WalMart in maintenance for 9 years, 10 years at Dalton Foundries and 10 years at Sun Metal Products.
Jerry was a member of the VFW #1126 and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed fishing and Nascar racing and followed Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Jerry was a very caring person who would give the shirt off of his back if someone needed it. He cared for his indoor and outdoor pets. He loved his family - especially his children and grandchildren. He was known to surprise Sharon with loving and romantic gestures.
Those left with treasured memories are his wife: Sharon; 2 daughters and a son-in-law: Gina Banks; Christina and Troy Matthews; and a son and daughter-in-law: Wallace and Lisa Banks - all of Omaha, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren: Tory and Taylor Matthews; Mackenzie, Alex, Quentin and Josephine Banks; and Cassie and Elizabeth Banks; brother-in-law: Bob Kraft of Rockwood, Michigan; niece and 2 nephews: Ruby Kraft and Walter Kraft of Rockwood, Michigan and Bobby (and wife Terri) Hepburn of Warsaw; and 3 great nieces: Elica, Laila and Kayla.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents: Wallace and Alice (Convay) Banks; 3 sisters: Linda Kraft, Emily Kosha and Patricia Ingram; and 3 brothers: Joseph Sobeck, Donald Sobeck and Ralph Sobeck.
Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing in support of each other Thursday, January 2nd from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. A service celebrating the life of Jerry Wallace Banks will take place Friday, January 3rd beginning at 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Pastor Scott Carmer of First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw where military honors will be conducted by Warsaw's American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
