Syracuse

Jerry L. Kerns, peacefully passed away at home in Syracuse, Indiana, on January 6, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on February 23, 1946, in Van Wert, Ohio to Clarence & Orpha (Stewert) Kerns. Jerry spent his formative years in Van Wert and graduated from Van Del/Lincolnview HS.

Professionally, Jerry is most remembered for his time spent within the commercial construction and metal fabrication industries. He worked mostly with Owens Corning. In addition to his professional life, he indulged in a brief adventure as the owner of a pool hall, a testament to his spirited nature and love for engaging with people.

Outside of work, Jerry found joy in history, becoming an avid reader who delighted in exploring the past. Most conversations he had with others were full of nostalgia. He was an excellent listener. Jerry had a love of music, especially folk singers and storytellers. He had a particular passion for baseball, football and horse racing, where the thrill of the sports mirrored his zest for life. Grandma mac once told him, "in your heaven, i'm sure there will be race tracks". Jerry's love for animals extended to his furry friends, as he had affection for horses, cats and dogs. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and contagious smile.

Jerry was a devoted husband to Cheryl Kerns, who survives at home. He leaves behind four children: Troy Kerns of Van Wert, Ohio; Kevin (RITA) Cluts of Pickerington, Ohio; Vanessa (Josh) Gillenwater of Pierceton; and Mitch Uzubell of Syracuse. Jerry was also a proud grandfather to two grandchildren, who he adored deeply.

Preceding him in death are his parents Clarence Kerns and Orpha (Stewert) Kerns, along with his brother Clarence "Ernest" Kerns.

Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1001 S. Huntington Street, Syracuse, is entrusted with care of Jerry. The family is grieving privately at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be directed to New Hope Pet Rescue, 72555 Co Rd 29, Syracuse, IN 46567
