Joan M. Slocum, 62, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 2:45 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on July 17, 1958 in Evergreen Park, IL to Lawrence & Beverly (Kellett) Buletty.
She grew up in Chicago area and moved to the Syracuse area in the mid 1970’s where she lived most of her life. She attended Mt. Assisi High School in Chicago and graduated in 1976 from Wawasee High School in Syracuse. She also received her Bachelor’s & Master’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. She formerly taught elementary school at West Noble & Indianapolis.
She was a member of the St. Martin de Porres Catholic Parish where she also taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women of Today in Syracuse.
She is survived by:
Daughter – Paige Slocum of Syracuse
Son – Taylor (Tiffany) Slocum of Syracuse
2 Grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 6941 E Waco Dr., Syracuse, IN with Fr. Dermot Gahan officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
