John Groat

Biography
John Alan Groat, a lifetime resident of Warsaw, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in his home. He was 67 at the time of his passing.

John was the son of John R. and Ethel L. (Anderson) Groat. He was a 1967 graduate of Warsaw Community High School.

John was married to Joyce E. Easterday on June 26, 1971 in Columbia City’s Faith Baptist Church. Joyce survives in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He had worked for DePuy as a machinist for more than 30 years. He was a former member of Warsaw Wesleyan Church and enjoyed congregational singing at church. He enjoyed many types of music, especially traditional Christian hymns.

Those who survive include his wife of 45 years, Joyce Groat of Fort Wayne; daughter and son-in-law, Ethel and Rod Massing of Fort Wayne; two grandsons, Kevin Massing of Columbus, Ohio and Donavin Massing of Fort Wayne; and his brother, Robert Groat of Richland, Missouri.

Preceding John in passing is his mother, Ethel Groat, father, John R. Groat, step-mother, Nellie Groat, and two sisters, Alma Ragan and Eva Engle.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 10 to 11 AM In Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw. A service which celebrates his life will follow, beginning at 11 AM. Pastor Denny Bollenbacher will officiate with burial in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that gifts be directed to the Mirro Center for Research c/o Parkview Hospital Foundation, 10622 Parkview Plaza Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46845. Please indicate ‘research’ in the memo line.
